Puffiness and slow recovery

Waking up swollen, legs that feel heavy by the afternoon, or a body that takes longer to come back than it used to. Modest, physical, short lived treatments that are honest about being short lived.

What it actually is

The lymphatic system moves fluid out of the tissues and has no pump of its own. It relies on movement, muscle contraction and breathing. Sit still for ten hours, fly, sleep badly or train hard, and fluid sits where it was left. That is what puffiness is most of the time, and it is why the treatments are mechanical rather than clever.

What causes it

  • Long periods without movement, including desk work and flights.
  • Salt, alcohol and poor sleep, which affect fluid distribution within hours.
  • Hormonal cycling, which changes fluid retention week to week in a way worth tracking before treating.
  • Recovery load after training or after a procedure, where swelling is doing a job and only needs helping along.

Before you book anything

Swelling in one limb, swelling with breathlessness, or new persistent swelling that does not settle overnight is a medical matter and needs a GP the same week. Do not book a massage for it.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis. It is what we would say in the room, written down so you can read it before deciding whether to come in.

What treatment can do

Move fluid, take the heaviness out of the legs, and shorten the recovery window after a treatment or a hard training block. The effect is immediate and it is genuinely pleasant. Most people notice it within the hour.

What it cannot do

None of this is detoxification and we will not use that word. The liver and kidneys do that job and they do not need help from a clinic. The effect of a drainage session lasts days rather than weeks, and infusions do nothing at all for anybody who is not actually deficient in the thing being infused.

Treatments for puffiness and slow recovery

Pressotherapy

Compression garment therapy that squeezes fluid out of the legs and abdomen in sequence.

From £45

IV Vitamin Therapy

An infusion of fluids and nutrients given by a nurse after a health assessment.

From £150

Infrared Sauna Therapy

A cabin that warms the body directly with infrared, at a lower air temperature than a traditional sauna.

From £35

What a course usually looks like

Standalone as often as suits you. As post treatment recovery, two or three sessions in the ten days after a body procedure. Anybody considering a course of infusions is asked for recent blood results first, because prescribing on symptoms alone is guesswork.

Course pricing is lower than the same sessions bought one at a time, and spreading the cost is available over three months on anything above £300.

Every concern

Looking for something else?

Or just ask

If it is not on the menu, or you are not sure what to call it, say so in your own words and the team will answer. Ask about this concern.

Where to start

Bring a photograph of it at its worst.

Most concerns look different in clinic lighting at eleven in the morning than they do at home at night. A photograph on your phone is genuinely useful and we would rather see one than take your word for it.
